1,4-Dioxane is a by-product produced in the ethoxylation process, a route to some ingredients found in products used for cleaning in the commercial and industrial markets.
Owing to its potential health impacts, the presence of 1,4-Dioxane in cleaning and other consumer products has recently motivated higher levels of concern by the EPA and state regulators. EPA is currently undergoing risk evaluation under the TSCA. California has begun investigative research. New York has implemented new regulatory actions.
New York’s new law, will limit trace concentrations of 1,4-Dioxane in cleaning products to 2 ppm starting Dec. 31, 2022, and to 1 ppm at the end of 2023.
