Poly bd® resins are low molecular weight, hydroxyl-terminated homopolymers of butadiene. These hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) resins are characterized by low volatiles content, low glass transition temperatures, excellent hydrophobicity and a highly reactive functionality.
These resins offer unique properties in potting and encapsulation formulations. Cured as urethanes, these resins impart good thermal cycling up to 125°C, excellent hydrolytic stability, and low moisture permeation. Poly bd formulations show consistent elongation and embedment stress, even at low temperatures.
From athletic surfaces to rocket motors, Poly bd resins find utility in applications where high filler loading is required. The resins impart the low-temperature flexibility, moisture resistance, and acid/base resistance critical to these formulations.
