As a biodegradable multifunctional opacifier for modern cleansing and conditioning products, TEGO® White 50 MB provides a white and creamy appearance to surfactant formulations. It is predominantly based on renewable raw materials and can be used as an alternative to polymeric opacifiers. This product is an easy-to-formulate, cold-processable liquid and can be added at each formulation step.
TEGO® White 50 MB is a fine-particle dispersion of ethylene glycol distearate in an aqueous surfactant solution. It is a homogeneous viscous fluid and is intended for cold mixing/processing. It is soluble in water, alcohol, and non-polar organic solvents.
This opacifier ingredient provides a certain refatting effect in traditional formulations, caused by the glycol disterarate wax and the Glyceryl Laurate, which is an effective refatting agent. Figure 1 shows the results of a sensory hand wash test of a simple surfactant base (9% Sodium Laureth Sulfate; 3% Cocamidopropyl Betaine). The addition of 3% TEGO® White 50 MB leads to an improved skin feel during washing and improved foam quality. Additionally, the resultant skin feel of the dry hands has been improved.
